AMA joins forces with AARP and MOAA to urge Senate action on Medicare pay cuts
27 January 2010
On January 21, the AMA joined with the AARP and Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) to call on Congress to permanently repeal the current Medicare physician payment formula, and replace it with one that reflects the cost of providing care to Medicare and TRICARE patients. Leaders urged the Senate to permanently fix the Medicare physician payment problem to avoid a limited choice of physicians and limited access to care.
The AMA and AARP sent a
joint letter (PDF) to Senate and House leadership underscoring the urgency of repealing the current sustainable growth rate formula to avert a 21 percent physician payment cut scheduled to take effect March 1. The event coincides with a joint AMA/AARP television
ad campaign urging action on this issue.
